2003 Youth Games

                                                                     European Junior Bronze Medallist, Dominic
Girdler jumped into action to help cheer on more than 1300 eager competitors at the Leicestershire, Leicester and  Rutland Youth Games on 22nd June 2003.  The 2003 Youth Games were the biggest ever.  Not only did we have a team travelling from Germany, we also organised 13 different sports over two days of competition at Loughborough University and Charnwood Leisure Centre. Lots of advice from writology editors can be found directly at https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/writology-com.

Celebrating its 5th Anniversary, the Games is firmly established as one of the most important dates on the sporting calendar for
                                                                      our talented young players.

The Games are a very visible sign of the tremendous sports development
work taking place throughout the area and relies upon the support,
guidance and enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers who are the backbone of sport in Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.

Boccia

The Youth Games Boccia Tournament was played on Friday, 20th June at Charnwood Leisure Centre.  There were two age group competitions, one for years 5/6 and one for year 7 and older.

There were teams taking part from Charnwood, Leicester City, Melton and North West Leicestershire.  After a tremendous days competition, the teams from North West Leicestershire and Charnwood triumphed.  Competition Manager, Jason Prescott said the competition was played in a fun and friendly spirit and built upon the success of the first Youth Games Boccia event last year.  The competition was of an excellent standard and my congratulations to players and teachers of the winning teams.

Sunday, 22nd June 2003

The day started of in exciting fashion, with two instructors leading a mass warm up on a stage adjacent to the Fountain lawn.  With the muscles warmed, everyone dispersed to their respective competition sites, to meet up with the Competition Managers.  This year competitions were organised for Aquathlon, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Girls Cricket, Pan Disability Cricket, Girls Football, Hockey, Netball, TAG Rugby, Girls Rugby, Squash, Swimming and Tennis.

Where possible competitions were organised in a round robin format to give young players as much time competing as possible.

When the competitions had finished, the competitors paraded from the Fountain Lawn around the track to each collect a medal from one of our VIPs.  After a number of short speeches, the important business of the trophy presentations began.  Please see below for the list of winners
