THE YOUTH GAMES

BACKGROUND

(To order essay editing with sports-related projects you have to leave your contact information at our site.)

The concept of County Youth Games was brought forward in 1999 as the whole nation prepared to celebrate the Millennium.

Each of the 45 counties in England organised Youth Games as the young people of our nation celebrated the year 2000 through sporting participation.

Each of the 45 counties of England sent representative teams to a National Finals held in Southampton.  They were joined by squads representing Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  The National Finals were the second biggest sporting event in the world in 2000 with over 7,000 young people participating.  The biggest event was the Sydney Olympics!!

Since then it has become an annual event getting bigger and better each year!

Each Local Authority area through their Sports Development Officer, work in partnership with local schools and community sports clubs select teams to represent their area.  The selection process works in different ways depending on where you live and is carried out through school competitions, district trials and personal nominations.

·                    Charnwood

·                    Harborough

·                    Hinckley & Bosworth

·                    Leicester City
